Ask us anythingIt means care arranged privately by a family, delivered one-on-one, rather than rationed visits through a medical benefit or shared staffing in a facility. You choose the hours, the caregiver focuses on one person, and the family stays in charge of how care is done.
Home health is short clinical visits by nurses or therapists, ordered by a doctor and usually covered by Medicare. Private duty care is the ongoing daily support between those visits: personal care, meals, safety and companionship for as many hours as you choose. Most families with serious needs use both.
When you hire directly, you become an employer: payroll taxes, workers’ compensation, liability if the caregiver is injured, and no backup when they are sick or leave. An agency carries all of that, plus screening, training and supervision. The direct hire is only cheaper until something goes wrong.
No. Private duty nursing is skilled clinical care delivered by a licensed nurse, usually for complex medical needs. Our private duty caregivers provide non-medical care: personal care, meals, safety, medication reminders and companionship. Families with clinical needs often run both, with our caregiver covering the many hours a nurse is not there.
Consistency is the point of private duty care, so yes: we match one primary caregiver and keep them, with a familiar backup for their days off. If the personality fit is not right, tell us once and we will rematch without awkwardness.
Long-term care insurance usually covers it, and we handle the claim paperwork. Veterans and surviving spouses may qualify for VA Aid and Attendance, which we are approved to work with. Standard health insurance and Medicare do not cover non-medical hourly care.
